ESH was founded in 1956 by Ronald Elliston, Ronald Steady and Stanley Hawes and the business began by constructing houses in the Eastern region. Over the past 60 years, the company has continued to expand by developing its range of building services to both the residential and commercial markets.
In the 1980’s, the specialist Aluminium division was developed to provide architectural products for both in-house contracts and as a specialist sub-contractor for other local companies. This has grown steadily and now comprises a major part of the company’s activity.
In 2018, ESH acquired a majority shareholding in successful local building firm, Heronbuild. This addition to the Company was made very much with the future in mind. Visit the website at www.heronbuild.co.uk
At its heart, ESH is an experienced and dependable family business. It is run by Daniel Elliston and Mark Phillips, who between them have over 60 years of experience in the company.
Daniel Elliston studied Management Science at Southampton University and graduated in 2000. He had previously worked part time at ESH during the holidays both on site and in the fabrication department, but on graduating he joined the family firm full time.
Daniel started in the estimating department producing quotations and pricing tenders before spending time in the design office producing CAD drawings for architect approval and working on fabrication and installation drawings. He then moved into the position of Contracts Manager where he oversaw teams of site installers as well as liaising with main contractors and clients at site level.
When Daniel isn’t running ESH, he can instead be found running around the East Anglian countryside to keep fit!
Mark Phillips studied Building Management and Quantity Surveying at Suffolk College and Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge. He qualified as a Chartered Builder in 1984 and a Chartered Surveyor in 1987.
After working as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor for ESH through his college years, he continued working at the company after becoming qualified. Mark became a Director and minority shareholder in 1994.
Following the MBO in 2004, Mark became Co-owner of the company and now runs it alongside Daniel.
When not at work, Mark can often be found somewhere up a mountain!
